چکیده

Abstract Research on wood phenology has mainly focused reactivation of the cambium in spring. In this study we investigated if summer drought advances cessation formation and it any influence structure late successional forest trees temperate zone. The end xylogenesis was monitored between August November stands European beech pedunculate oak Belgium for two consecutive years, 2017 2018, with latter year having experienced an exceptional drought. Wood affected by drought, ceasing cambial activity maturation about 3 weeks earlier 2018 compared 2017. Beech ceased before oak, but its did not differ years. Furthermore, 2 no significant difference found ring width, percentage mature fibers season, vessel size density. show thinner fiber walls, whereas showed thicker walls. paper, that can have important impact season xylem development. This will help to better understand ecosystems improve models.

Photosynthetic responses of tropical tree species from different successional groups under contrasting irradiance conditions

(Photosynthetic responses of tropical tree species from different successional groups under contrasting irradiance conditions). This study evaluated the photosynthetic responses of seven tropical trees of different successional groups under contrasting irradiance conditions, taking into account changes in gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence. Although early successional species have show...

Nitrogen Addition Enhances Drought Sensitivity of Young Deciduous Tree Species

Understanding how trees respond to global change drivers is central to predict changes in forest structure and functions. Although there is evidence on the mode of nitrogen (N) and drought (D) effects on tree growth, our understanding of the interplay of these factors is still limited. Simultaneously, as mixtures are expected to be less sensitive to global change as compared to monocultures, we...

Gas exchange, leaf structure and nitrogen in contrasting successional tree species growing in open and understory sites during a drought.

Seasonal ecophysiology, leaf structure and nitrogen were measured in saplings of early (Populus grandidentata Michx. and Prunus serotina J.F. Ehrh.), middle (Fraxinus americana L. and Carya tomentosa Nutt.) and late (Acer rubrum L. and Cornus florida L.) successional tree species during severe drought on adjacent open and understory sites in central Pennsylvania, USA. Area-based net photosynthe...

Impact of drought on the temporal dynamics of wood formation in Pinus sylvestris.

We determined the temporal dynamics of cambial activity and xylem cell differentiation of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) within a dry inner Alpine valley (750 m a.s.l., Tyrol, Austria), where radial growth is strongly limited by drought in spring. Repeated micro-sampling of the developing tree ring of mature trees was carried out during two contrasting years at two study plots that differ in ...

Priority effects of early successional insects influence late successional fungi in dead wood

Community assembly is an integral process in all ecosystems, producing patterns of species distributions, biodiversity, and ecosystem functioning. Environmental filters and colonization history govern the assembly process, but their relative importance varies depending on the study system. Dead wood decomposition is a slow process, allowing decomposer communities to develop within a slowly chan...
